Microchipping

At Spay Today, we use the AKC Companion Animal Recovery service for all of our microchipping. To learn more about the the AKC CAR service, visit their website here.

Microchipping is a fairly new technology that assists animal control centers, vets and animal shelters in the return of lost pets. Your pet will be injected with a microchip, about the size of a grain of rice, below the skin on the back of the neck, between the shoulder blades. The microchip can be scanned and contains a unique identifying number that will be linked to your contact information including name, address, phone number and email.

Your pet will also receive a collar tag with a 1-800 number and your pets micro chip identification number. If someone that doesn’t have access to a microchip scanner finds your pet, they can call the 1-800 number and get the information they need to get your pet back to you.

Microchipping is a great benefit to the owner of a lost or stolen pet, but it also cuts down on the costs of housing, feeding, providing medical care, out placing or euthanizing a lost dog or cat placed at a shelter.
